Yes, but only big ones, and not for long. A standard space heater on high draws 1,500 W continuously, which is about the most a household outlet supplies. That rules out every compact station and drains even a 2 kWh battery in about an hour.

Runtime on high (1,500 W)

Space heater (high): 1,500 W running. Current models; “Borderline” means within 10% of the station’s rating.

Use the low setting

Most heaters have a 750 W low setting, which roughly doubles these runtimes. Even so, heating a room with batteries is expensive in capacity. A 1 kWh station gives a little over an hour on low.

Better ways to stay warm on battery

  • Heated blankets and pads draw 50–100 W, a fraction of a space heater, and warm you rather than the room. A 1 kWh station can run one through the night.
  • Keep the furnace fan running. Many gas furnaces only need a few hundred watts for the blower and controls. A transfer switch or inlet installed by an electrician lets a large station power the furnace safely.
  • Heat one small room and close it off.
Never run fuel-burning heaters indoors as a substitute. They can produce dangerous carbon monoxide.
