Our verdict

The Gen 2 is Anker’s update of the C1000, and both were listed at $599.99 on Anker’s store when we checked. The C1000 Gen 2 is the better choice for most people: 2,000 W continuous vs 1,800 W, 3,000 W surge vs 2,400 W, a faster 49-minute wall charge, 4,000 rated cycles instead of 3,000, and it’s 3.5 lb lighter (24.9 vs 28.4 lb).

The original C1000 keeps a few advantages: slightly more capacity (1,056 vs 1,024 Wh), one more AC outlet (six vs five) and support for an expansion battery that doubles it to 2,112 Wh. Buy the original only if you want that expansion option or find it noticeably cheaper.
